25th November 2024 Windsurfing: Levington Wind Direction: WSW Wind Stength: 5/10 Surf / Sea State: smooth Air Temperature: 10 Sea Temperature: Weather: cloudy morning, sunny afternoon:) Max Speed: 12.58 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 5 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Monday 25th November – Windsurf * River Orwell at Levington Marina – mainly cloiudy. Foil – 12.58 knot max, 7.00 knot ave, 5.00 knot hour, 0.00 knot mile, 8.52 km., 5.00 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Storm 6.5. With family things to over the weekend I missed Storm Bert but to be honest I don’t think I would have sailed anyway, although for the most part it was not as windy as forecast! I was hoping to get a good sail as Bert moved away and it is now the time of year I avoid open sea sailing choosing the safer option at Levington even though the tide was not great being low water at 1.11 but I don’t mind doing loads of tacks out of the marina channel. So after taking our son to Felixstowe railway station at 7.30 so he can go home to Devon, sadly due to flooding he could not make it so had to return to Felixstowe! After breakfast I headed over to the marina arriving at nine with just enough water to launch but the wind looked very marginal but I decided to give it a go and made the huge mistake of rigging way too small going for 6.5 when I needed 8.5 but I really don’t like big sail foiling but after today I must persevere with it:) It was a gloomy uninspiring day as I launched with only brief glimpse of the sun, sadly I sent ages just floundering about, only flying once, I should have come ashore to change up but with the tide dropping I didn’t fancy doing 20 tacks to get out again with a big sail so after one long run down towards Pin Mill I decided to call it a day. Sods law the wind definitely picked up while I was packing up, now isn’t that always the way! On the plus side I did see a large flock of avocers and the geese are always flying overhead:) Walk *** - Around Felixstowe – sunny periods. I was home just after midday in time for lunch with Mag and Robert, Mag continues to be poorly, it’s a month now and is now on antibiotics. Mag was still up for a walk so we headed down to the seafront by the peir in some lovely sun but were surprised to get a few spots of rain, as a dark cloud passed over we got a rainbow and I managed to get a few nice pics. We continued to the Spa theatre and back through the gardens as the sun was setting getting another couple of decent pics and was lucky enough to get one chosen as a BBC Editors pick, I wonder if it will make it onto the late edition of Look East? Maeva arrived late afternoon as her mum and dad are driving to Gt Yarmouth to deliver a couple of resue pigeons, bonkers I know, she is now fast asleep on Granny as usual:) It is Maevas 2nd Birthday tomorrow and Robert wil once again try and get home but we are not holding our breath as there has been some pretty bad flooding, so lucky here in Suffolk as we missed the worse of the rain!
